Northeastern Nevada Regional Hospital (NNRH) has committed to funding $5,000 in scholarships for students pursuing an Associate of Science in Radiologic Sciences through the Great Basin College Radiology Program. Judge Montero is the only judge presiding over the Sixth Judicial District of Nevada, where his caseload is composed of every civil and criminal case that originates in or proceeds to the District Court level in Humboldt County. “As a judge, I have a profound responsibility to lead with integrity, ensuring my work makes a meaningful impact on the lives of the children and families we serve,” said Judge Montero. “I am looking forward to contributing to the NCJFCJ Board of Directors and honored to bring my experience and passion to furthering the NCJFCJ’s mission.”
On Sept. 4, Humboldt General Hospital EMS-Rescue conducted a critical school bus extrication training, emphasizing the importance of preparation and teamwork in emergency response. Led by instructor Ken Whittaker, the training provided EMS personnel with hands-on experience using specialized tools in complex scenarios, such as a bus accident.

The Nevada State Public Charter School recently approved the opening of an Elko charter school that plans to use curricula from Hillsdale College, a conservative Christian private college with an outreach program “devoted to the revitalization of public education through the launch and support of classical K-12 charter schools.” Nevada Classical Academy Elko was given the greenlight to open in Fall 2025. Enrollment will start at 113 students in kindergarten to third grade, then expand to 357 students in grades K-8 over six years.
