The Nevada High School Rodeo Association made its second stop of the fall season in Ely on Sept. 7-8 for the White Pine rodeo. Humboldt County’s Brynn Barto led the way in the barrel racing average with a time of 34.933 seconds. She won the first performance at 17.339 and was the runner-up in the second performance.
What do you do when you have to play your next four matches on field turf? If you are the Lowry High School girls soccer team, you find the one of the few places in Winnemucca that has field turf. The Lady Bucks practiced in the high school courtyard to get ready for their Lyon County road trip.
The Lowry High School boys soccer team remained in the hunt for a playoff berth in the Northern 3A with a win and tie at home this past weekend. Lowry beat Dayton 1-0 on Thursday and played to a scoreless tie against Fernley on Saturday.
The Battle Mountain High School football team dropped a 28-6 decision to Dayton on Friday night at Tim Knight Field in Battle Mountain.
The Battle Mountain High School volleyball team came away with a split of two Northern 2A matches this past weekend at home and sit at 4-3 in league play. “The matches were fought hard this weekend as we tried out a new rotation as we are nearing the down slide of our season,” said BMHS coach Julia Ramirez. “We are working at utilizing more hitters on the net.”
Last week, the Pershing County High School soccer team tied the visiting Fernley Vaqueros and beat the Whittell Warriors on the road. The Mustangs now have a 3-5-1 record overall and a 2-5-1 league record.
The Mustang volleyball team defended their undefeated status in two league games last week. On Wednesday, they beat the visiting Yerington Lions in four sets (25-22, 17-25, 25-17, 25-13). Saturday, they traveled to Tahoe City and trounced the Lakers in five sets (27-25, 25-21, 25-27, 20-25, 15-9). To make the Mustang win even better, the North Tahoe Lakers are the defending State champions.

ELKO, Nev. – The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Elko District Office invites the public to provide input on the Programmatic ESR & Weeds Environmental Assessment (EA). This EA will update existing National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) documents and will cover vegetation management work located within the Elko District, which encompasses Elko County, and the northern portions of Eureka, and Lander Counties. The 30-day public review period will open September 9, 2024, and will close October 9, 2024.
A Nevada judge has rejected a legal challenge to the state law establishing a $380 million public financing deal to build a baseball stadium in Las Vegas for the Oakland Athletics, saying the members of the teacher union who filed the lawsuit lacked standing. In a Friday order, Carson City District Court Judge Kristin Luis did not weigh in on the union’s arguments that lawmakers violated the Nevada Constitution in five ways, including a claim that it would constitute an increase in public revenue but was not passed by the constitutionally required two-thirds majority vote of legislators.
RENO — Youth from across the state will gather at the Nevada 4-H Expo to showcase the diverse skills and knowledge they have developed through the University of Nevada, Reno Extension’s 4-H Youth Development Program. The Expo, an annual celebration of the talents and achievements of Nevada’s 4-H youth, will take place from Sept. 19-21 at the 3C Events Complex in Fallon.

The music scene in Northern Nevada is full of talented artists and the Sagebrush Sounds Music Festival is bringing nearly 20 of them to Winnemucca on Sept. 21 at the Havens Ranch located west of town at 8005 McNinch Rd.
