A bill is proposing to flip Nevada’s long-standing policy requiring parents to consent or opt in for their children to receive sex education curriculum to instead opt out. Nevada is one of five states that requires parents to enroll their children into sex education instruction.

Joint meeting generates more info about transloading terminal

Despite lying within Humboldt County limits, the Winnemucca Municipal Airport and adjacent land is owned and managed by the City of Winnemucca. A 177.31 acre parcel of land east of the Airport has been identified as a potential site for a transloading terminal — proposed by Lithium Nevada — which will take materials necessary for mining operations in Orovada from rail cars to trucks for transport. 

Amid opioid-fueled drug crisis, lawmakers seek higher penalties for fentanyl trafficking

From statehouses to the campaign trail, politicians and elected officials across the country have raised the alarm about the fentanyl crisis, pushing for increased penalties for traffickers as a way to limit the rising number of overdose deaths related to the synthetic opioid drug. Nevada lawmakers are considering five bills this legislative session seeking to counter the crisis through heightened felony charges for anyone convicted of selling or distributing fentanyl.

GBC hosts annual Maintenance Training Cooperative Scholarship finals

On March 28-29 Great Basin College hosted the annual Maintenance Training Cooperative (MTC) Scholarship finals on their Elko Campus.  This is a unique industry sponsored program where over 80 scholarships are awarded to students interested in diesel, electrical, instrumentation, industrial maintenance, and welding technologies.

Chasing Horse's Nevada sex abuse trial on hold indefinitely

The sexual abuse trial of a "Dances With Wolves" actor charged in Nevada with abusing Indigenous women and girls for more than a decade is on hold indefinitely, a state judge announced Wednesday. Nathan Chasing Horse, 46, was originally set to stand trial May 1. He is charged with 18 felonies, including sexual assault of a minor, kidnapping, lewdness and child abuse.
