Fourth of July parade soaks in the fun

The Silver State International Rodeo sponsored the 2023 4th of July parade on Winnemucca Blvd., which upheld the tradition of thoroughly drenching all participants and observers with water. Although water balloons were banned this year due to safety and clean-up concerns, fighters donned hoses, buckets of water and super soakers in the epic water battled. Even firefighters, law enforcement and local businesses on the parade route joined in on the fun!

GOED Board funds 10 workforce development programs at $6 million

CARSON CITY— The Nevada Governor’s Office of Economic Development (GOED) Board approved $5,840,000 from the Workforce Innovations for the New Nevada (WINN) fund to four colleges in the state to address industry needs.

Forty people attended a town hall at the Lovelock train depot on Monday night, six of them via Zoom. That's a sizable turnout for a small town. It demonstrates the groundswell of support for a Boys and Girls Club in Lovelock. Wendy Nelsen hosted the event. Middle school principal Shea Murphy moderated. Michael Wurm and Mark Jacoby came prepared to answer questions. Wurm is the CEO of the Boys & Girls Club of Truckee Meadows. Jacoby is the Director of Frontier Operations. Anything outside the Reno/Sparks area is considered a Frontier location.

Considerations for a four-day school week could be impacted by later start time proposed by the state

PUC approves NV Energy request to provide cost relief to customers

The Public Utilities Commission of Nevada (PUCN) approved a request from NV Energy to reduce energy costs for customers, starting July 1. The reduction will vary between approximately five percent and 16 percent for July, August and September, depending on a customer’s location and type of electric service they receive.
