NV Energy seeks to convert final coal plant to natural gas

NV Energy intends to convert its last coal generation plant to natural gas, the utility announced Wednesday, July 19.. The utility will file an amendment to its 2021 Integrated Resource Plan (IRP) for review by the Public Utilities Commission later this month outlining the retirement plan. The amendment is the utility’s fifth to its IRP.

It's time to fill out Recreational Trails Program project pre-applications

The Nevada Division of State Parks is currently accepting grant project pre-applications in anticipation of the 2024 Federal Highway Administration funding of the Recreational Trails Program (RTP). Submittal of a pre-application is required to determine project eligibility. Eligible pre-applicants will be invited to submit full applications this fall and to participate in the annual RTP proposal presentation meeting in December 2023.

First round of $70 million in funding available for Early Childhood Ed programs

The Nevada Department of Education and the Office of Governor Joe Lombardo are excited to announce the release of the first round of $70 million in funding for the Early Childhood Innovative Literacy Program. The funding was made possible by the passage of, Governor-sponsored, Assembly Bill 400 during the 2023 session of the Nevada Legislature. The funds can be used to support early childhood literacy and readiness programs for children under six years of age.

US to reopen review of Nevada geothermal plant near endangered toad while legal battle is on hold

In a reversal that marks a significant victory for conservationists, federal officials have decided to "revisit" the 2021 environmental review that cleared the way for construction of a geothermal power plant in Nevada where an endangered toad lives. Environmentalists and tribal leaders suing to block the project said the move will trigger an unprecedented third review of the partially built power plant that they say the Bureau of Land Management illegally approved in December 2021.

NOS teaches kids about watersheds

During the months of April and May, Nevada Outdoor School put on their largest field trip of the year. Between 4 Nevada counties, 761 students and 38 teachers participated in the 2023 Watershed Heroes Field Trip for 2nd graders.
