There are many tools used to assess malnutrition in kidney disease patients, but making the right diagnosis takes some careful interpretation and consideration of all factors. This goes beyond measuring dietary intake and weight on a scoring system and into considering social factors and other conditions a patient may be experiencing.

University awarded nearly $1.8M for collaborative research project to study rural perception of climate change

The U.S. National Science Foundation (NSF) has announced an investment of $56 million in 11 projects, spanning a total of 21 institutions in 19 jurisdictions, through NSF’s Established Program to Stimulate Competitive Research (EPSCoR). The University of Nevada, Reno is included in a $6 million award in a three-state collaborative project to address climate change in underserved rural communities.

Cortez Masto joins Pershing County community leaders to improve broadband access

LOVELOCK — U.S. Senator Catherine Cortez Masto (D-Nev.) joined USDA Rural Development Director Lucas Ingvoldstad, Lovelock Mayor Mike Giles, Pershing County Economic Development Authority Executive Director Heidi Lusby, Pershing County Commissioner Shayla Hudson, and representatives from Kromer Investments and Uprise Fiber in Lovelock to discuss her efforts to improve broadband access in rural Nevada, including a recent $27.1 million grant she helped secure for Lovelock and the surrounding areas.

Buckaroo Hall of Fame to honor three

Two Oregon buckaroos, Dallas "Dally" Givan and Terry Cahill along with Ervin Thompson from northern Nevada will be inducted into the Buckaroo Hall of Fame over Labor Day Weekend, in conjunction with the annual Buckaroo Heritage Art Roundup. On Friday, Sept. 1, there will be a social gathering for the honorees, family and friends at 5 p.m. On Saturday, Sept. 2, there's the induction ceremony at noon, including speakers, stories and reception. All events held at the Buckaroo Hall of Fame, located at the East Hall Convention Center.

City approves motion to update engineering work at airport

The variation is displayed on an airport runway and can change over time due to magnetic declination. According to City officials, the MAGVAR at the Winnemucca Municipal Airport needs to be updated, along with lights and wind cones.
