The race for Nevada governor has recently come under the spotlight as Republican candidate Joey Gilbert called for a state-wide recount of votes in the 2022 primary race, which he ultimately lost to Clark County Sheriff Joe Lombardo. Humboldt County finished the vote recount in just under six hours on June 30, finding no discrepancies in numbers, according to Humboldt County Clerk Tami Rae Spero. The Humboldt County Board of Commissioners held a special meeting on July 7 to accept the recount numbers and certified that the numbers were both full, true and accurate.

The Board of Regents for the Nevada System of Higher Education (NSHE) voted 8-3 to end a COVID vaccine mandate for higher education employees during a special meeting Thursday, ending the requirement less than seven months after it went into effect. According to the national nonprofit Treatment Advocacy Center, one in five of the calls that law enforcement receives involve someone who may need care from a mental health care professional. The VCC program will allow on-the-scene access to immediate care because law enforcement will have tablets to access the resources with them in the field.

It also addresses the adoption of laws by other states that have imposed civil or criminal liability for those who seek abortions.
In the past few weeks, I have received several calls about how to control pocket gophers. Apparently, the lack of irrigation water and mild winter weather has provided gophers the opportunity to expand their burrow systems. These pests are very destructive to the alfalfa plants and harvest equipment. The following are some important facts about these pests.
