King Pro Rodeo Company (KPRC) is bringing the Winnemucca Xtreme Bronc Rodeo to town on Dec. 31, starting at 8 p.m. at the Winnemucca Events Complex/Humboldt County Fairgrounds.

Redwood Materials — a lithium battery recycling company based in Carson City — received more than $105 million in tax abatements following a unanimous decision Thursday by the Governor’s Office of Economic Development (GOED) Board of Directors. The abatements came after Redwood Materials announced a $1.1 billion capital investment, the second-largest in GOED’s history behind Tesla, which Redwood Materials CEO J.B. Straubel co-founded along with Elon Musk. Redwood plans to build a campus in Storey County at the Tahoe-Reno Industrial Center.

The Bureau of Land Management has aerially seeded 1,900 acres of the public lands near Shingle Pass in Cave Valley, about 45 miles south of Ely. The late November seeding is part of a same-acreage mechanical treatment that removes expanding pinyon pine and juniper to enhance sagebrush, grass and forb development, thereby improving watershed health and reducing catastrophic wildfire risk.
Gov.-elect Joe Lombardo and Nevada lawmakers will have $11.4 billion in projected tax revenues to construct the next two-year general fund budget covering July 2023-June 2025, marking a nearly $2.3 billion increase over the current two-year budget set in 2021. That amount comes via the state’s Economic Forum, which projected a 2.9 percent increase in state tax revenues over the next two years, beginning in July 2023. The forecast increase in tax revenues also comes despite concerns from national economists that a recession could be on the horizon in the next year.

On Thursday, the House passed the 2023 National Defense Authorization Act, an annual – and typically bipartisan – bill that sets spending levels and policy for defense agencies.
