State parks hearing on changes for group camping fees slated March 31

CARSON CITY, Nev. - The Nevada Division of State Parks will hold a public hearing at the Richard Bryan Building, 901 S. Stewart Street, Carson City, 2 March 31 from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. The public hearing will be video conferenced from State Parks' Southern Region Office at 4747 Vegas Drive in Las Vegas. The purpose of the hearing is to receive comments from all interested persons regarding the amendment of regulations that pertain to Chapter 407 of the Nevada Administrative Code, relating to group camping fees and entrance fees for photographers with commercial photography permits. There will be no fee increases associated with these amendments.

Catch limit changed for Truckee river

RENO - Recent changes in Nevada's fishing regulations have simplified the catch limit to three game fish on the entire Truckee River in an effort to make the regulation uniform with the ponds in Washoe County.

Lander County combined tax revenue down

Combined tax revenue for the month of December 2013 was just released by the state. The figures show Lander County down 14.9 percent from December the previous year. This December's total was $28,479,237, - last December's total was $33,473,654. For the current year to date, Lander County's combined tax is down 26.7 percent.

ELKO - The Bureau of Land Management (BLM), Elko District Office, Tuscarora Field Office released an Environmental Assessment (EA) on a proposed pipeline in northeastern Eureka County for a 15-day public review until March 19.

CARSON CITY - The consumer protection efforts of the Nevada Division of Insurance resulted in the recovery of $3,831,959 from insurance companies to Nevada Consumers in 2013.

Cooperative Extension offers ag producers workshops on dealing with drought

Workshops across state give alfalfa and grass hay growers information on irrigation, prices and insurance

RENO - With the 2014 drought looming, University of Nevada Cooperative Extension is offering workshops across the state this month and next to give Nevada agricultural producers, particularly alfalfa and grass hay producers, information to help them prepare for the drought. Topics will include water availability, recommended irrigation practices, insurance options and an outlook on prices. The first workshop will be March 20.

NRCS has drought help for ranchers

RENO - NRCS Nevada has requested additional financial assistance to assist farmers and ranchers through a special initiative for agricultural producers impacted by the exceptional drought the state is experiencing. Applications are being taken at local USDA service centers through April 18.

Nevada receives $4.7 million in federal security funding

CARSON CITY - The State of Nevada Department of Public Safety - Division of Emergency Management and Homeland Security (NDEM) received grant guidance from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) yesterday. The State of Nevada has been awarded $4.7 million in federal homeland security dollars for federal fiscal year 2014.
