CARSON CITY - The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) recently announced that Nevada has been selected as one of six locations to be a center for Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) development in the United States. As a UAV development site, the most likely economic forecast shows that there could be thousands of jobs for UAS direct employees with an average wage of approximately $62,000; an estimated $2.5 billion in economic impact in present dollars; and an estimated $125 million in annual state and local tax revenue.
ELKO - The Nevada Cattlemen's Association (NCA) recently held a Christmas social for young cattlemen interested in membership and participation in NCA's mission to promote, preserve and protect a dynamic and profitable Nevada beef industry. The meal, social and membership recruitment event was sponsored by Zoetis Animal Health and was held at the Red Lion Inn and Casino. Zoetis is an animal health pharmaceutical company that has always shown strong support to the livestock industry.

CARSON CITY - For years now, the Nevada Department of Wildlife (NDOW) has been telling the public to not feed wildlife. While there are many reasons why you should never feed wildlife, NDOW would like to point out the newest addition to the list...feeding big game mammals is now against the law.
CARSON CITY - The Bureau of Land Management, in conjunction with other agencies within the Department of the Interior, will waive recreation-related fees for visitors to the National System of Public Lands for Martin Luther King, Jr. Day (Jan. 20), Presidents' Day weekend (Feb. 15 - 17), National Public Lands Day (Sept. 27), and Veterans Day (Nov. 11) in 2014.

WINNEMUCCA - There are four candidates so far for Sixth Judicial District. Pershing County District Attorney Jim Shirley, attorney Todd Plimpton, and Kevin Pasquale, chief deputy district attorney with the Humboldt County District Attorney's office, traveled to Carson City and paid the $150 fee. Filing opened on Jan. 6 and will remain open through Jan. 17.
CARSON CITY - Mike Willden, Nevada Health and Human Services Director, announced today caseload activity after the Oct. 1, 2013 launch of the Affordable Care Act (ACA), is higher than initially projected. Medicaid caseload has increased by 10,483 cases from 330,623 at the end of September to 341,106 at the end of December 2013. Original estimates placed Medicaid caseload at 336,195 by end of 2013.
ELKO - The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Elko District is making available for public review an Environmental Assessment (EA) for parcels of public land nominated for lease in the 2014 Competitive Oil & Gas Lease Sale. These parcels have the potential for future oil and gas exploration and development.

WINNEMUCCA - The Nevada Department of Wildlife (NDOW) recently announced the full implementation of the Aquatic Invasive Species (AIS) Watercraft Decal Program, developed more than a year ago to fund prevention efforts against aggressive invasive species, such as quagga and zebra mussels.
