Dufurrena Ranch hosts fourth annual Rope for Hope

The Dufurrena Ranch held its fourth annual Rope for Hope event in the middle of July. Despite the fires that ravaged near the Oregon and Nevada border earlier in the month, there was a good crowd enjoying the roping, silent auction and barbecue. Everyone contributed to raising money for ranch women with breast cancer.

The Family Stability Council

The Frontier Community Action Agency (FCAA) would like to introduce you to the Family Stability Council, a group of concerned citizens that has been meeting since November of 2007. This group's focus is looking at building short- and long-term solutions to building sustainable and healthy communities one family at a time, by sharing resources and solutions with partner agencies. By being able to discuss and address the gaps in our local neighborhoods we are more readily able and prepared to assist our family members and neighbors.

Rotary Club of Winnemucca donates Literacy Kits

WINNEMUCCA - The Rotary Club of Winnemucca donated 280 Literacy Kits; one for each child who participated in the annual Humboldt County School District Kindergarten registration held in April. Each incoming student received a pencil, paper, an eraser, a pencil sharpener, scissors, glue, crayons, an alphabet sheet, play dough, a public library card application, Unifix cubes for counting, nursery rhyme coloring books, a book to read and a bag to keep all of their things in.

McArthur Avenue at the intersection of Melarkey and McArthur Streets, and across the street from Sonoma Heights Elementary School.

Free math refresher course at GBC

WINNEMUCCA - The Academic Success Center at Great Basin College is sponsoring a free math refresher course Aug. 6-16 at all GBC campuses. The class will meet Monday through Thursday evenings, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Students need not register for the class. Everyone is welcome.

GBC announces Spring, 2012 Deans' List

GBC's Vice President of Academic Affairs Dr. Mike McFarlane and Vice President of Student Services Lynn Mahlberg announced the Deans' List of Great Basin College students for the Spring, 2012 semester. The Deans' List honors students with a 3.5 great point average for the semester.
