Digital mammo open house this Saturday at HGH

WINNEMUCCA - Humboldt General Hospital's Radiology Department is preparing to debut a new digital mammography system, and the community is invited to help celebrate.The Selenia Dimensions 2D Full-Field Digital Mammography System is now serving patients.

'Open House with the Sheriff' - Quarterly meeting debuts Feb. 15

WINNEMUCCA - In an effort to ensure a greater exchange of information and communication between the Humboldt County Sheriff's Office and the public, Sheriff Ed Kilgore is pleased to announce the first quarterly "Open House with the Sheriff" meeting set for Wednesday, Feb. 15, from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

Sometimes seniors can be seen as laying back and letting the world go on without them, but that is certainly not the case when it comes to the board that establishes policy for the non-profit corporation.

Winnemucca FFA happenings - Chapter working on many community projects

WINNEMUCCA - A new year has begun, so I thought it was time to update the community on the Winnemucca FFA Chapter happenings. We have been a very busy group of students.

Hometown performance

Winnemucca native Alex Adsitt, 22, who is currently a street performer in Ashland, Ore., was recently visiting family in Winnemucca when he decided for fun to take his harmonica and guitar out to a bench at Khoury's and sing and play for passers-by. Adsitt specializes in 1940s and 50s Irish pub music. The self-taught musician also plays the diatonic button accordion, the piano accordion, the ukulele and the harp. His goal is to travel the world and keep Irish music alive.

WINNEMUCCA - Great Basin Arts and Entertainment's "Music at the Martin" continues tonight at 7 p.m. with Ramblin' Jack Elliott's third performance in Winnemucca.

FFA Warmth Drive being held at Lowry

WINNEMUCCA - Today, I will be talking about the FFA Warmth Drive put on at Lowry High School. After such a successful 1st year, FFA decided to put on a 2nd annual Warmth Drive. The FFA club started putting on the Warmth Drive to ensure that the less fortunate people of Winnemucca are ready and dressed for the cold winter season.

WINNEMUCCA - The Humboldt County Library presents "Great Basin Exteriors: A Photographic Survey," an exhibition of 30 photographs by three regional artists - Adam Jahiel, Daniel Cheek and Nolan Preece - which examines loss, change and abandonment in the American West.

WINNEMUCCA - It's that time of the year at Lowry - Winterfest! Leadership has been brainstorming for weeks to make sure you have a crazy-fun time. The festivities will revolve around a holiday theme and the motto, "They Won't Have Time to Celebrate While Watching Lowry Dominate."

Power Paws 4-H Dog Club accepting new members

WINNEMUCCA - The Power Paws 4-H Dog Club is accepting new members and their dogs for the 2011-2012 4-H Club year. The club will meet every Monday (excluding holidays) at the Extension Office at the Fairgrounds at 4 p.m.

WINNEMUCCA - Photography shows, musical performances, contests and workshops are on the schedule for the 24th outing of Shooting The West. A unique photography symposium held in Winnemucca, this year's program will be presented March 7 - 11 in the Winnemucca Convention Center.
