Lowry High students participate in statewide Law Day Live

Lowry High School in Winnemucca was one of three statewide locations to participate in the interactive webcast of Law Day Live on April 25. Unlike past years, when forums of judges and lawyers fielded questions from high school students, the 2013 event featured mock Supreme Court arguments presented by students. Supreme Court Justice Nancy Saitta moderated Law Day Live from Las Vegas. Schools in Reno and Las Vegas also participated. The mock arguments focused on cases relating to the American Bar Association's 2013 Law Day theme of "Realizing the Dream: Equality for All."Students in one location will present the appellate arguments while students in another location will provide the respondent arguments. At a third location a panel of "judges" - including real life judges and former judges - will rule on the case.

Lowry students participate in All-State Band

DAVE MUNK • Special to the SunSelected Lowry High School band students, under the direction of Paul Criddle, participated in the Nevada Small School All-State Band this past week. About 90 students participated from 18 schools across the state. Students were able to rehearse together at the Elko Convention Center Thursday and Friday and performed May 4. The opportunity to perform a variety of excellent music, including a tribute to veterans, and to be instructed and led an enthusiastic and talented conductor made it a good experience for the students.
