An estimated 30 percent of Nevadans live with a disability related to cognitive, visual or auditory function. Advocates say that Question 2 on the 2024 ballot would update that antiquated language — that has been in the state’s governing charter since Nevada’s statehood in 1864 — to be more inclusive toward people with disabilities and their spectrum of needs.

The Humboldt County School District Board of Trustees convened on Aug. 13 to deliberate the potential creation or modification of a policy regarding cell phone use during the instructional day. The discussion focused on the impact of cell phone usage in schools and the need for a cohesive policy to address disruptions.
Under a dramatic plume of smoke, firefighters successfully contained a rapidly advancing wildfire that threatened to engulf nearby homes, showcasing interagency cooperation and teamwork. Backpacking 101
Bow Wow Meow Giddy Up won the 2024 Winners Inn Shootout bowling tournament held Aug. 3-4 at Spare Time Bowl in Winnemucca. The Winners Inn and Winnemucca Inn helped sponsor the tournament of 32 teams and 85 players from out of town. Over $12,000 in prize money was awarded.
This past Saturday, the Pershing County High School varsity volleyball team traveled to Susanville, Calif., to scrimmage against five other teams. Those included host Lassen High School, along with Bishop Manogue, Galena, Modoc and Westwood.
Dave Skoglie came home from the 2024 NHPA World Horseshoe Championship in the Tri-Cities, Wash., with $500, a patch for his jacket and a first-place trophy. He won 11 games and threw 18 ringers over three days in the elder men’s division (65+).
The Pershing County Mustang football team scrimmaged in Battle Mountain last Saturday. A dozen senior players, several juniors and a sophomore made the trip from Lovelock to scrimmage with Lowry, White Pine, Battle Mountain, Spring Creek and Elko.
