Friday night fireworks

Last Friday, the Pershing County High School football team provided its third straight shutout over a Northern 2A opponent. The Mustangs beat the visiting Yerington Lions 54-0 on homecoming night at PCHS. The festivities included halftime fireworks and the crowning of a new homecoming king and queen — Izayuh McGlothin and Yasmin Acosta.

Miscues hinder Lowry in homecoming loss to Elko

If you have lived in Winnemucca for a few years, you would know Saturday afternoon high school football games are few and far between. Due to a lack of officials, the Lowry High School football team had to move its traditional Friday night homecoming game to Saturday afternoon.

Lunches are served each weekday at noon and soup and croutons is served at 11 a.m. the Pleasant Senior Center, 1480 Lay Street. Lunches are open to the public. Suggested minimum donation is $4 for seniors age 60 and older. Visitors must be 16 years or older. Their meal is $10.

The Nevada Department of Wildlife (NDOW), along with the Animal Ark Wildlife Sanctuary and Nature Care, are saddened to inform the public that the Davis Bear’s condition worsened substantially since Friday, Sept. 20.

Lovelock Paiute Tribe will receive federal funds to hire, train officers

U.S. Senators Jacky Rosen (D-NV) and Catherine Cortez Masto (D-NV) announced nearly one million dollars in federal funding for law enforcement agencies across Nevada to help them hire more officers, purchase essential equipment, and invest in officer mental health.

Battle Mountain NNA swim team competes in Donner Drip in Truckee

Seven swimmers from the Battle Mountain NNA swim team were in Truckee on Saturday, Sept. 14, for the Donner Dip. Five-year-old Ryker Serna Torrence made his swimming debut, after starting in June. Zayne Hall is in his senior year and has not completed in over a year but did great. It was Nevaeh Serna’s first meet in the 13–14-year-old age group and she held her own winning the 200 backstroke by four seconds.

Battle Mountain soccer round-up —

The Battle Mountain High School boys soccer team traveled to Spring Creek on Tuesday, Sept. 17, and suffered a 15-0 loss to the Spartans. The squad is 0-8 on the season. The Longhorns have three home matches this week as part of homecoming. Battle Mountain hosted Churchill County on Tuesday and results were not available at press time. Battle Mountain takes on West Wendover on Friday at 11 a.m. and White Pine on Saturday at 10 a.m.

Greenwave blank Lady Bucks in soccer

The Lowry High School girls soccer team has played a match on its home field, since the last day of August. The schedule makers did the Lady Bucks no favorites with six matches on the road in September.
