Ladies golf results —
After the original season finale was postponed due to rain in Winnemucca, the Lowry High School baseball team traveled to Dayton on Wednesday, May 1, to take on the Dust Devils. Despite an outstanding pitching performance from Angus Boyles, Lowry lost 4-2 to Dayton to end the season at 1-14 in the Northern 3A and 6-20 overall.
The Lowry High School swim team made its way to Fernley on Friday, April 26, for a dual with Fernley and North Tahoe. The Buckaroo boys lost 94-61 to North Tahoe and 73-64 to Fernley. The Lowry girls knocked off North Tahoe 92-89 and lost 112-83 to Fernley.
Nasty weather and all, the Lowry High School made its way down Interstate 80 and to Reed High School in Sparks this past Saturday for the Northern 3A Trials. Cold, wet and windy weather greeted the athletes, making it tough on everyone.
The Battle Mountain High School softball team finished off the regular season in style with a pair of wins this past Friday in Tahoe City, Calif., securing its spot in the Northern 2A Regional Championships.
The postseason is underway for the Battle Mountain High School track and field team, with the Longhorns traveling to Red High School in Sparks this past Saturday for the Northern 2A Trials.
The Pershing County track team pushed through a cold snap at Reed High School on Saturday. The stakes were high. So were the jumps and leaps. As a result, 17 athletes advanced to the regional competition in Carson City this weekend.
Winnemucca Youth Bowling awards —
You never know what you are going to get weather wise in northern Nevada in early May and Mother Nature provided her punch this past Saturday the Northern 1A Regional Track and Field Trials at Reed High School in Sparks.
In an already busy month in Humboldt County and Winnemucca, one more event is on the docket for shooting enthusiasts. The United States Practical Shooting Association will be hosting its Area 1 Championship from May 16-19 at the range located off of Rose Creek. About 550 shooters and their families will converge on Winnemucca for the match. USPSA Area 1 includes Alaska, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, Oregon, Utah, Washington and Wyoming. There are 51 clubs within 12 sections.
It was a few days later than expected but the Lowry High School softball team finished off a three-game sweep of Dayton, with a 13-1 win on Wednesday, May 1. The game was scheduled to be played Friday, April 26, in Winnemucca, only to be postponed by rain and moved to Dayton.
Feather River bound
After a long and sometimes a complicated process, Lowry High School senior Savannah Stoker has found her landing spot for college basketball. She will be headed to Twin Falls, Idaho, and College of Southern Idaho.
