Lowry High School senior David Walker was nominated and accepted into the 2024 Dream All-American Bowl. After rigorous review from the committee, the top athletes were invited to play in the exclusive all-star game and participate in a weekend long event of developmental activities and performance on a nationwide platform. Dream All-American Bowl showcases the nation’s best high school and middle school athletes.
The Battle Mountain High School girls basketball team wrapped up its non-conference, preseason schedule this past weekend with a trip to Smith Valley for the Bulldogs Invitational.
Lowry High School’s Jesus Guizar and Bernardo Estrada were named to the Northern 3A all-league first team for their play this past fall season. Guizar was selected as a midfielder and Estrada as a defender. Elko’s Nico Avila was named the MVP and Alonso Lujan was chosen as the coach of the year.
The Pershing County High School wrestling team competed at multiple locations this past week. Three went to the Cody Louk Invitational at the Winnemucca Events Center. The rest of the team traveled to Reno. Eleven participated in the McQueen JV tournament at Robert McQueen High School.
Lowry High School’s Roan Hornbarger, Anthony Guzman and David Walker were named to the Northern 3A all-league first team for their play during the football season. Hornbarger was selected on the defensive line and collected second-team, all state honors as well. Guzman was one of three wide receivers on the all-league first team and he was chosen for the all-state honorable mention team.
The Battle Mountain High School boys basketball team split four games in Smith Valley at the Bulldogs Invitational, beating Pahranagat Valley 67-29 and Smith Valley 72-58 and losing 72-57 to Virginia City and 64-36 to Eureka. The Longhorns are now 5-4 on the season.
The Battle Mountain High School wrestling team made the short trip to Winnemucca this past weekend for the Cody Louk Invitational and had a pair of wrestlers place second.
The Lowry High School wrestling team found itself back atop the standings at the Cody Louk Invitational, winning the tournament his past weekend in Winnemucca with 228 points. Douglas was second with 192 points, followed by Spring Creek (161), Carson (155) and Spanish Springs (154.50). The Buckaroos had three champions crowned in Kruz Gomez at 113 pounds, Marcas Ricci (126) and Chris Gildone (150).
This past Thursday night at the Winnemucca Event Center, the Lowry High School wrestling team defeated South Tahoe 58-18. The win propelled long-time coach John Brooks past Jim Billingsley for dual wins at Lowry with 313. The 313 dual wins are the four most in Nevada history.
