Pershing County boys basketball splits pair of games

The Pershing County County boys basketball team had mixed results this past week. First, they traveled to Carson City and beat the Sierra Lutheran Falcons in a close midweek contest (51-46). On Saturday afternoon, Pershing County hosted the Incline Highlanders, the top-ranked team in the 2A (11-0). Incline led throughout the game but the Mustangs almost caught up with them a few times. The Highlanders had height on their side, with 11 players over six-feet, according to their roster. The final score was 55-32, Incline.

Lowry cruises past Dayton, drops state title rematch to Fernley

Fernley was the place to be this past Friday, as girls basketball took center stage with a 2023 state championship rematch between the Lowry High School girls basketball team and Fernley. It was standing room only in the final game of the Vaqueros gym and was the game of the week on Nevada Sports Net.

Lady Longhorns split with Bighorns, Lions

The Battle Mountain High School girls basketball team knocked off Oasis Academy 57-16 on Friday and lost 50-25 to Yerington on Saturday to see its record go to 12-7 overall and 4-5 in the Northern 2A. After Oasis Academy tied the game at 2-2 early in the game, Battle Mountain went on a 17-2 run that extended into the second quarter to take a 19-4 lead.

BMHS boys split with Oasis Academy, Yerington

The Battle Mountain High School boys basketball team picked up a split of two Northern 2A games, making a return trip to its home floor. Battle Mountain got off to a rough start against Oasis Academy on Friday night, as the Bighorns led throughout the first half.

McDermitt boys drop two home games

After an unexpected week off due to the weather, the McDermitt High School boys basketball team was back on the floor this past weekend for two home games. McDermitt hosted league-leading Eureka on Friday and lost 63-28. The Bulldogs took on Lund on Saturday afternoon and lost 58-43.

Lady Bulldogs take control of 1A East with wins over Vandals, Mustangs

There is a new leader atop the 1A East standings, as the McDermitt High School girls basketball team knocked off Eureka 50-45 on Friday in McDermitt, in what could be the first of three meetings.

BMHS wrestlers dual Fernley, Lowry

Despite having this past weekend off, the Battle Mountain High School wrestling team was still able to get on the mat, with a pir of duals against Fernley and Lowry on Wednesday, Jan. 17, in Winnemucca. The Longhorns, who were not at full strength, lost 60-18 to Fernley and 51-21 to Lowry.

WASHINGTON — Leading members of Congress released a bipartisan, bicameral tax proposal Tuesday, promising a middle-path deal to help low-income families and provide incentives for businesses as Trump-era tax breaks expire. The framework led by top tax policy leaders U.S. Democratic Sen. Ron Wyden of Oregon and Republican Rep. Jason Smith of Missouri would raise the child tax credit incrementally through 2025 and restore tax relief for affordable housing projects.

Jacky Rosen (D-NV) introduced a much-anticipated lands bill for Washoe County, opening up new parcels for development in the housing-starved area in a conservation and development compromise mirroring prior Nevada lands bills. The Truckee Meadows Public Lands Management Act, first requested by Washoe County and the cities of Reno and Sparks in 2016, has been studied and drafted by Rosen’s team for more than four years.
