The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) will meet with the Sierra Front-Northwestern Great Basin Resource Advisory Council (RAC) on Sept. 17 and 18, in Winnemucca. On Sept. 17, the meeting will be held at the Winnemucca BLM District office at 5100 East Winnemucca Blvd., from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. On Friday, Sept. 18, the RAC will attend a field tour to the Owyhee Desert.

Marcus Molina graduated from the Marine Recruit Depot in San Diego on Friday, Aug. 7, and is now Private Molina. He was a LHS wrestler and football player and coached Special Olympics for eight years. He was contracted as an electrical engineer and will receive training at Camp Lejeune in North Carolina for the next 18 months. Congratulations Private Marcus Molina.

This year, thanks to a grant from Frontier Community Coalition, all the kid’s games and kid’s craft table were free. Adults paid an entry fee for events which was either jack-potted back or a set award was given.

Battle Mountain Elementary School will be holding it’s Annual Open House on Aug. 20 from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. All parents are asked to meet in the old junior high gym for some information regarding the new school and for questions and answers. Calling all youth artists in Lander County and on the Yomba Reservation, grab those colored pencils and markers because the Austin Lions Club is hosting its first Youth Painting Contest. According to Debra Amens, a representative of the Austin Lions Club, they would like to make this an annual event.
The Winnemucca Century Club, the booster club for Lowry High School athletics, will hold its annual membership drive barbecue on Saturday, at 6 p.m. at Pioneer Park.
