Carlin Tunnels to get annual cleaning; expect delays at area

ELKO – The annual cleaning of the Carlin Tunnels will result in lane closures and potential traffic delays on Interstate 80 Monday, April 18 through Thursday, April 21, the Nevada Department of Transportation has announced.

Book club meets Tuesday in Winnemucca

The Humboldt County Library Book Club meets at 7 p.m. in the Nevada room at the library. This month’s selection is “After You” by Jojo Moyes, a sequel to “Me Before You.” Flashbacks and references to the first book keep the reader fully aware and engaged in the second book. Prepaid Tuition open enrollment period is extended through April 30

CARSON CITY — The Nevada State Treasurer’s Office announced Friday that the open enrollment period for the Nevada Prepaid Tuition Program has been extended one month, and now closes April 30, 2016. 

Nevada Cattlemen’s Association announces $1,000 scholarship

ELKO – Graduating seniors interested in pursuing an agriculture education should apply for the Nevada Cattlemen’s Association annual scholarship. The Nevada Cattlemen’s Association will be giving this year’s outstanding graduating senior a $1,000 scholarship to attend and junior college or four-year University. The deadline for all applications is May 10, 2016. For requirements and a scholarship application, please visit www.nevadacattlemen.org.

Nevada Board of Wildlife Commissioners, Humboldt County Elk Management Sub-plan Steering Committee will meet on Tuesdsay at the Winnemucca Inn in the conference room.

The following animals were recently picked up by animal control. More information on impounded dogs at the Sage Heights shelter is available by calling the shelter at (775) 623-6403 or Sheriff’s Dispatch at (775) 623-6429 and leaving a message, 24 hours a day. When calling, be prepared to provide the dog’s description, license number and general area in which it was lost.
