Lowry's Britain Backus, Kaitlin Messmer, Tariana Weatherspoon and Kepa Hilbish set a new school record in the 4x100 relay with a time of 50.24 seconds.
Since the start of the season in late February, the Lowry High School girls track and field team have proved to be one of the best in northern Nevada, regardless of classification.
That was on full display this past weekend at the Northern 3A Regional Championships at Douglas High School in Minden.
The Buckaroos ran away with the team title with 156.33 points, defeating Truckee (112.5) and Elko (100.33) and South Tahoe (100.33).
Lowry has the opportunity to wins its second state title in program, the first came in 2018.
She may be just a sophomore but Alyla Thomas ran like a senior last weekend.
LOWRY HIGH SCHOOL TRACK AND FIELD
The Lowry High School track and field team travels to Overton and Moapa Valley High School this weekend for the NIAA State Championships. The Buckaroo girls won the regional title and are looking for a second state championship in program history. Lowry won the state title in 2018.
Thomas brought home three gold medals in the 800 meters, 1,600 meters and 3,200 meters.
Thomas improved three seconds from her prelim time in the 800, stopping the watch at 2 minutes 22.07 seconds.
She ran the 1,600 meters in 5:22.78 and the 3,200 meters in 11:45.07. Earlier this year, Thomas broke the school record in the 1,600 meters.
Kianna Bazile found herself from gold as well, winning the high jump at 5 feet, along with a second-place finish in the triple jump with a mark of 34 feet, 1 inch.
The junior will head to Moapa Valley High School in a third event, after placing third in the 300-meter hurdles in a time of 48.15.
Tariana Weatherspoon (13.10) and Kaitlin Messmer (13.19) qualified for the state meet in the 100-meter dash with third and fourth-place finishes.
Messmer narrowly eat out teammate Kepa Hilbish, who had a time of 13.23.
However, Hilbish, a senior, found her way to state in the 200 meters in a time of 26.33, with senior teammate Britain Backus (26.71) in fourth.

Sophomore Ava Swensen will be in southern Nevada on the strength of a fourth-place finish in the 400 meters at 1:01.39 and the 800 meters (2:27.53) to join her teammate, Thomas.
Kylee Wilkinso punched her ticket to state, with a second-place outing in the discus, with a mark of 106-6.
Senior Ashlyn Bottoms will be at state on the strength of her runner-up finish in the pole vault, clearing the bar at 8-6.
The Buckaroos are sending three relays, including the 4x100, where Weatherspoon, Messmer, Hilbish and Backus set a new school record of 50.24 to place second.
The same foursome was second in the 4x200 relay as well at 1:46.03 and the group of Ava Swensen, Mia Preciado, Brooklyn Swensen and Thomas were third in the 4x800 in a time of 10:16.03.
Kenison wins triple jump for Lowry boys
Lowry junior Brent Kenison did his best to match Thomas on the weekend, winning one individual event and placing second in two others for the Buckaroo boys.
Kenison had a mark of 47 feet to win the triple jump and was second in the pole vault (13-0), as well as in the high jump, clearing the bar at 6-2.
Senior Shane Gilliland will join him at state in the pole vault after placing fourth with a mark of 12-6.
Just missing out on state berths included Travanti Weatherspoon with a fifth-place finish in the pole vault, Jonathan Moser sixth in the discus and Cooper Hoagland sixth in the 1,600 meters.
Lowry finished eighth in the team standings, with Truckee winning the team title with 113 points.
The NIAA State Championships take place Friday and Saturday at Moapa Valley High School.
