While most other teams have been struggling with the recent bad weather, one is enjoying the wet because that is what they do.
The Lowry High School boys swim team remained perfect on the year beating North Valleys 66-54 on Friday, March 7, at Alf Sorenson Pool in Reno.
The Lowry girls notched its first dual win as well, beating North Valleys 82-66.
Steven Camacho and Kael Sisley won individual events for the Buckaroo boys.
Sisley, a freshman won the boys 100-backstroke by four seconds in a time of 1 minute, 28.09 seconds.
Camacho led the way by nearly three seconds in the 200-freestyle with a time of 2:31.49.
Camacho doubled up on the day, as he was the only swimmer of the 10 to break 30 seconds in the 50-freestyle and won with a time of 29.23. Sisley added a fourth-place outing in the 100-freestyle 1:18.07.
Kelsen Sisley, a junior, collected second-place finishes in the 50-freestyle (31.12) and the 1100-freestyle (1:18.07).
Sophomore Francisco Ibarra placed fifth in both the 50-freestyle in a time of 36.15 and the 100-freestyle at 1:31.19.
The 200-meter relay of Ibarra, Camacho, Sisley and Sisley won with a time of 2:28.64, with North Valleys getting disqualified in the race.
The foursome also won the 200-relay with a time of 2:08.46, beating the Panthers’ four swimmers by over two seconds.
Toland wins two events for Lowry Girls
Sophomore Makenna Toland continued her strong start in the early part of the season with a pair of individual wins.
She blew away the field by four seconds in the 50-freestyle with a time of 31.39. Toland was the only swimmer to compete in the 500-freestyle and stopped the clock at 6:46.86.
Lizzie Harmon, also a sophomore, dominated the 100-freestyle, winning by nearly eight seconds in a time of 1:10.66. Harmon placed second in the 200-freestyle at 2:48.51.
Freshman Iris Ramriez placed third in the 50-freestyle (36.12) and fourth in the 100-freestyle (1:25), with Alora McClure (1:52.20) and Camilia Contreras (1:53.35) finished second and third, respectfully, in the 100-backstroke. Contreras and McClure were fifth and sixth in the 100-freestyle.
Haylett McClure had finishes of sixth in the 50-freestyle at 48.24 and eighth in the 100-freestyle (1:53.82).
The foursome of McClure, Harmon, Toland and Haylett won the 200-relay in a time of 3:01.33, with North Valleys getting disqualified. Harmon, Ramriez, Contreras and Toland won the 400-relay (5:28.21), as the Panthers did not field a team in the race.
McClure, Haylett, Contreras and Ramriez were second in the 200-relay with a time of 2:52.40.
Lowry competed in the Aqua 5 this past Saturday in Carson City. The Aqua 5 combines the times of all the events. No relays are contested.
Lowry travels to Truckee on Friday for a dual with Truckee and Churchill County at 1 p.m.
