The Lowry High School track and field continued to challenge itself in the early going with a trip to Las Vegas for the Bishop Gorman – NTS Invitational on Saturday, March 8.
The Buckaroos returned to northern Nevada with strong performance under their belt, as Kianna Bazile won the girls triple jump with a leap of 32 feet, 8.50 inches.
She beat Bishop Gorman’s Colette Archambeault by three inches.
Bazile added a fourth-place finish in the high jump, clearing 4 feet, 10 inches and was sixth in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 51.32 seconds.
Amaya Betes (4-10) and Vanessa Lott (4-8) placed second and fifth in the high jump, with Ashlyn Bottoms finishing sixth in the pole vault, clearing 8-0. In addition, Lott was ninth in the 300-meter hurdles at 53.68.
Britain Backus finished eighth in the 200 meters with a time of 27.57 and Alyla Thomas (5:50.67), Ava Swensen (6:11.44) and Brooklyn Swensen (6:40.84) were sixth, ninth and 13th, respectfully, in the 1,600 meters.
Nevaeh Gerhard placed 10th in the pole vault
The foursome of Tariana Weatherspoon, Kaitlin Messmer, Kepa Hilbish and Backus were second in the 4x100-meter relay with a time of 52.29. Bishop Gorman won the race at 31.20.
In the freshmen division, Taylor Soderstrom placed third with a time of 6:30.
On the boys side, Lowry junior Ryder Huitt was the runner-up in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 17.26 seconds.
William Scow of Shadow Ridge won the race at 16.92. Junior Jonathan Moser placed third in the discus with a toss of 131-03.
Lowry splits its teams this weekend, sending a group to the Ward Coates Invitational on Friday and the Fallon Elks Invitational on Saturday.
