Longhorn baseball team split four games in opening week of play

The Battle Mountain High School split four games as part of the Pershing County tournament to start the 2025 season.

Battle Mountain traveled to Winnemucca on Thursday, Feb 27, and beat the Lowry JV 9-1.

Battle Mountain heads further west on Friday and Saturday to play at Pershing County High School.

On Friday, Battle Mountain lost 9-0 to Dayton of the Northern 3A.

 Battle Mountain was held to just three hits — all by sophomore. Daniel Lara.

The Dust Devils scored three runs in the first and third innings to build a 7-0 lead.

In its first game on Saturday, Battle Mountain took on another 3A school in Sparks and  came away with a 8-5 win.

In the final game of the tournament fir the Longhorns, Battle Mountain lost 4-0 to league rival Yerington.

The Longhorns had just one hit in the contest.

Battle Mountain opens Northern 2A play this weekend at Silver Stage.
