The Lowry High School baseball team makes its home debut this weekend against North Valleys on Friday and a doubleheader with Sparks on Saturday.
The Lowry High School baseball team packed its bags and gear up and made its way to Needles in Southern California last week to begin the year at the Colorado River Invitational.
The Buckaroos were competitive all weekend, picking up one win in four games and are 1-4 after a busy three days in the California desert.
Central 7, Lowry 5
In the opening game of the tournament, Lowry faced off against Central from El Centro, Calif., and the Buckaroos jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning.
With two outs, Angus Boyles and Jake Bauman were hit by pitches, which led to a rally with hits from Bryce Niblack and an RBI-single from Erick Valencia. Bauman added a second run on a steal of home.
Angus was dominant on the mound through four innings, allowing just one hit with eight strikeouts and no walks. But the Spartans broke loose for all seven of its runs in the fifth inning.
Lowry rallied in the bottom of the fifth with three runs, including a two-RBI triple from Bauman and an RBI-single from Valencia.
Valencia had two hits for the Buckaroos and the junior and Bauman each has two RBI.
River Valley 4, Lowry 3
In its second game on Thursday, Lowry fell behind River Valley (Mohave Valley, Ariz.) after two innings of play.
The Buckaroos tied the game in the fourth on a single by Niblack and a groundout from Gabe Lange. Each team countered with a run in the fifth inning, with the Dust Devils scoring the winning run in the sixth on an RBI triple.
Michael Heikkila and Lange each had two hits, with ReiCyan Grau striking out eight and walking two in five innings of work,
He allowed three runs (two earned) on four hits, Aidan Tregellas threw .2 innings and allowed a run and a hit.
Southwest EC 7, Lowry 3
In its first game on Friday, Lowry saw the El Centro, Calif., school race out to a 6-0 after the top of the third inning.
The Buckaroos got one of those runs back in the bottom of the third, when Connor Peterson scored on a passed ball after reaching on a walk.
Trailing 7-1 going into the fifth inning, Lowry scored twice, including a run-scoring single by Niblack but the rally ended there. Niblack led the squad with two hits and Kayd Garner, Grau and Boyles each had one hit.
Matthew Casalez and Garner split time on the mound.
Palo Verde 8, Lowry 0
In the second game on Friday, Lowry was blanked 8-0 by Palo Verde Vally from Blythe, Calif. The Buckaroos were held to three hits, one each by Valencia, Lange and Bauman.
Lowry 11, Holtville 0
Lowry founds its offense in its final game on Saturday morning with a 10-run third inning against Holtville.
The Buckaroos pounded out 10 hits, including a team-high three from Bauman and two from Valencia. Grau, Lange, Niblack, Matthew Casalez and Heikkila had one hit apiece. Niblack drove in a pair of runs.
Niblack and Jace Casalez combined for the shutout, as Niblack earned the win with three strikeouts and two hits allowed in 4.1 innings.
Lowry makes its home debut Friday against North Valleys at 1 p.m. and host Sparks on Saturday in a doubleheader starting at 10 a.m.
