Road’s End parking lot, trailhead in Lamoille Canyon closed for repaving

ELKO — Repaving at the Road’s End parking area at the end of Lamoille Canyon Road, Forest Service Road 660, is scheduled to begin on July 7.

The parking lot, trailhead, and upper part of the road will be closed for approximately 30 days.

“This is a priority project for the Forest due to damage from heavy use and age,” said District Ranger Josh Nicholes. “We will also be adding drainage features to mitigate water issues in this area.”

During the closure, almost all recreation areas, sites, and trails in Lamoille Canyon will remain open to the public.

The exceptions are Road’s End Trailhead and parking area will be closed.

Limited parking will be available at the Terraces Picnic Area.  Visitors are asked not to park along the road.

Forest visitors that plan to hike the Ruby Crest Trail or Island Lake Trails should start at Overland Lake, Colonel Moore, or Green Mountain Trailheads instead of the Road’s End Trailhead.

Thomas Canyon Cabin area and Lions Camp remain accessible.

Hikers, bikers, and horseback riders can still access the upper part of the canyon if they stay off the roadway itself.

“The safety of our public and road crew is our number one concern,” Nicholes said. “We appreciate everyone’s patience and cooperation while we work to reopen the road and parking area as quickly as possible.”
