Last week, the Pershing County High School volleyball squad teamed up with some younger athletes for Little Spikers, a summer camp focused on skills, teamwork and fun.

The three-day camp, held June 16-18 in the big gym at Pershing County High School, welcomed fifth through eighth-grade players.

PCHS coach Monica Halverson, assistant coach Daralyn Moura and the Mustang volleyball team led the younger players through the basics: passing, serving, hitting and gameplay. They also found time for team-building and communication exercises.

The high school athletes, easy to spot in their red shirts, worked alongside the younger campers, who wore white.

Throughout the camp, the younger players received hands-on instruction, encouragement and a preview of what playing as a Mustang is like.

Each camper took home a camp T-shirt and new skills for the upcoming season.

The Mustangs have a busy summer ahead with two team camps, weights and open gym.

The 2025 roster will include several returning seniors and welcome Courtney Brinkerhoff as the junior varsity coach.

The motto for the coming year is “Work hard; play hard.”

“I am looking forward to the great things in store for my program and the girls who choose to be part of it. Volleyball is life, and I’m glad I get to join for the ride,” said Halverson.
