Junior high/high school rodeo resumes


With Mother Nature fighting between holding onto winter and spring arriving, the Nevada High School Rodeo Association started its second half of the season with a stop in Pahrump on Feb. 15-16.

Humboldt County’s Taylor Hill posted a 10th-place finish in the average in the barrel racing with a time of 43.081 seconds. 

She knocked down a barrel in her first run but bounced back to place fifth in the second performance at 18.685. She also placed eight in girls cutting with 60 points in each performance.

Hill finished sixth in the pole bending average with a combined time of 50.455, including a runner-up finish in the first performance in a time of 22.868. 

She placed 10th in goat tying, bouncing back after not tying her calf in the first performance. Hill placed fourth in the second performance at 9.89.

Humboldt County’s Lane Byrd placed second in the boys cutting average with 141 points and Lovelock’s finished third with 136 points. 

Battle Mountain’s Eli Lancaster and Andrew Morian from the Douglas/Minden club tied for fifth in the team roping with a time of 39.240.

In addition, Lancaster placed fifth in tie-down roping with a time of 41.960 and Humboldt County’s Bryce Fears was 10th in the average.

Battle Mountain’s Landry Meiman placed 11th in the goat tying average 12th in the breakaway roping. 

Meiman’s best finish of the weekend was in pole bending, where she placed third in the average. She had times of 23.224 and 23.273.

Junior High 

Results

In the junior high division, Humboldt County’s Huntley Byrd won the average in pole bending in a time of 41.572. She topped the standing in both performances as well.

Byrd and Elko’s Luke Matson led the way in the team roping average at 26.630, with the duo finishing second in each performance.

She finished sixth in the barrel racing average and was fourth in breakaway roping. In addition, she was seventh in goat tying.

Humboldt County’s Chance Thomas placed 10th in breakaway roping, 10th in goat tying and seventh in chute dogging.

Battle Mountain’s Logan Lancaster and Eureka’s Kaycee Osterhoudt placed third in the ribbon roping average, with the duo winning the second performance in a time of 9.43.

Lancaster and Elko’s Pete Mori were fourth in team roping. They didn’t have a time in the first performance but won the second performance with a time of 8.42, the quickest on the weekend. 

Lancaster won the first performance of breakaway roping and was fourth in the average and teammate Cray Tervort finished fifth in boys goat tying. Lancaster was fifth in chute dogging.

The rodeo clubs travel to Las Vegas this weekend.
