Last week the Pershing County High School boys basketball team avenged league losses against Yerington and North Tahoe and beat Wells in a non-conference matchup.

The Mustangs’ week began with a 63-50 win against the visiting Yerington Lions.

Earlier this month, PCHS lost 60-52 to the Lions on the road.

Travis Donaldson scored a season-high 27 points. Denzel Zaldivar added ten. Trenton Rhodes and Michael Reitz scored ten and nine points respectively.

Next, Pershing County hosted Wells beat its guests 63-28.

Trenton Rhodes led the offensive attack with 13 points. Ramon Sanchez and Donaldson each added 12 points.

Finally, Pershing County traveled to North Tahoe and beat the Lakers 63-50. Earlier this month the Mustangs lost 65-61 to the Lakers at home.

Rhodes scored 18 points. Amare Rosas and Donaldson each scored 17 points.

"Defense was the key in both league matchups. We locked in, forced turnovers and played with intensity from start to finish. On offense, our teamwork stood out, with players making the extra pass and trusting each other to get the best shot," coach Jesse Canchola said.

On Wednesday, Feb. 4, Lovelock hosted Oasis Academy. Results were not available at press time. The boys beat Oasis 60-20 on the road earlier in the season.

This Friday, Pershing County hosts Sierra Lutheran for the last game of the regular season.

The Mustangs beat SLHS 63-44 earlier this year.

Friday will be senior night game, as the coaches, players and families will honor the team's six seniors for their hard work on and off the court.

The seniors include Donaldson, Michael Reitz, Izayuh McGlothin, Zaldivar, Efrain Aceves and Tyler Miller.

With the wins, Pershing County improved to 12-13 overall and 8-8 in the Northern 2A

"With zone playoffs ahead, these wins give us confidence and momentum," Canchola said.

Lovelock hosts the Northern 2A Regional Tournament Feb. 13-15.
