For most of the year, the Northern 2A girls basketball league has avoided chaos — however, as the regular season comes to a close, it’s now in full force in the conference.
North Tahoe came in undefeated in the Northern 2A, but lost twice (Pershing County and Yerington) opening the race for Yerington, Battle Mountain and Pershing County.
Battle Mountain kept its part and avoided any disasters with three wins in three days.
The Longhorns hosted West Wendover and beat the Wolverines 42-19 on Thursday and swept Silver Stage 54-19 and Sierra Lutheran 44-9 on the road to improve to 17-5 overall and 12-4 in league play.

In the opening Northern 2A contest of the season in December, West Wendover scored the first 11 points of the night but Battle Mountain rallied for a one-point overtime win.
That was not the case this time, as the Battle Mountain defense was the main story, as West Wendover did not score more than five points in any quarter.

The Wolverines went scoreless for over six minutes after that, as Battle Mountain went on a 19-4 run in the second quarter.
The Lady Longhorns celebrated senior night with a 11-4 spurt to finish the contest.
Paitynn Johns had a team-high 10 points, Heaven Martinez nine, Noel Hill eight, Lindsey Bleak five, Kamila Farias and Yadira Vazquez four each and Harlee Andersen and Ella Matheus each made a free throw.

Silver Stage 19
Battle Mountain’s road trip to Silver Springs was pretty much over before its started, holding the Nighthawks to two points, while leading 26-2 at the break. The advantage grew to 42-10 after three quarters of play.
Johns outscored Silver Stage by herself with 21 points, with Hill contributing 14. Vazquez netted six points, Matheus five and Bleak and Martinez four each. Hill added eight rebounds and Bleak had a team-high eight assists to go with four rebounds and two steals.

It was pretty much the same story on Saturday afternoon in Carson City, as Battle Mountain led 29-2 at halftime and 42-7 after three quarters of play.
Battle Mountain gets its shot at North Tahoe on Friday at 6 p.m., as the Longhorns celebrate Winterfest. The regular season finale is Saturday at 12:30 p.m. against Incline.
