Bulldogs split with Vandals, Mustangs; still in the hunt for playoff berth


The McDermitt High School boys basketball team remained in the hunt for a postseason berth in the 1A East after splitting a pair of road games this past weekend.

McDermitt traveled to Eureka and lost 59-43 to the Vandals but bounced back on Saturday afternoon with a 51-46 victory over Lund to improve to 3-5 in league play and 8-8 overall.

The eight wins by McDermitt is the most since the 2017-18 season when the Bulldogs won 12 games and advanced to the Northern 1A Regional Championship.

Eureka leads the 1A East at 7-0, followed by Jackpot (4-3), Owyhee (5-4), Wells (4-5) and Lund 3-4. The top five teams advance to the regional tournament in Elko.

The Bulldogs still have games remaining with Jackpot, Wells and Owyhee.


Eureka 59, McDermitt 43

Six different players scored for McDermitt, with junior Shandon Camas leading the way with a double-double with 15 points, 13 rebounds, two steals and two blocks.

Cheis Scott and Dylan Palmer, both sophomores each scored eight points and Warrick Crutcher added seven points, seven assists, four rebounds and one steal. 

Freshman Trevor Scott added three points and seven rebounds and Treal Scott scored two. AJ Farmer returned to the lineup as well and grabbed a pair of rebounds.


McDermitt 51, Lund 46

McDermitt evened the season series with the five-point win at Lund, with Palmer and Camas each finishing with 12 points. Palmer contributed four steals, two rebounds and two assists and Camas posted yet another double-double with 18 rebounds to go with two steals, an assist and a block.

Chris Scott collected none points, Crutcher had six points and nine rebounds and Trevor Scott added five points and three rebounds. 

Farmer finished with four points and three rebounds and Treal Scott three points.

McDermitt concludes its home schedule on Friday against Jackpot at 7:30 p.m. and Saturday versus Wells at 2:30 p.m.
