The Battle Mountain boys basketball team extended its win streak to eight games with victories at Oasis Academy and Yerington this past weekend.
With the regular season coming to a close quickly, the Battle Mountain High School boys basketball team has been in a must-win mode after starting the Northern 2A season at 2-3.
Since its last loss on Jan. 2, to West Wendover in overtime, Battle Mountain has reeled off eight straight wins to remain within striking distance of Incline and West Wendover for the top spot in the league.
Following six straight contests at home, Battle Mountain was on the road this past weekend and collected a 76-56 win over Oasis Academy on Friday in Fallon and completed a season-sweep of Yerington on Saturday with a 55-49 victory.
The Longhorns sit in third place in the Northern 2A at 10-3 and 14-5 overall. West Wendover leads the league at 11-1 and Incline is second at 10-1.
Battle Mountain hosts West Wendover on Thursday at 6 p.m. in a game with major playoff implications.
North Tahoe (9-3), Yerington (8-5) and Pershing County (6-8) hold the final three postseason spots.
Battle Mountain hosts North Tahoe and Incline to conclude the regular season. North Tahoe defeated Battle Mountain earlier in the year.
BMHS 76, Oasis Academy 56
On Friday, the Fallon school gave Battle Mountain everything it could handle for most of the night.
The Longhorns led 42-27 at halftime and held that double-digit advantage going into the final eight minutes of play.
BMHS 55, Yerington 49
The one bump in the road to possibly end the win streak was Saturday afternoon in Yerington.
However, the Longhorns did not allow that to happen and now own any tiebreaker with the Lions with the season sweep.
Geovanni Ruvalcaba knocked down five of the Longhorns seven 3 pointers to pace the team with 17 points to go with 13 rebounds for a double-double. The sophomore added six assists, six steals and three blocks.
Fellow sophomore Brodie Smith contributed 16 points, six rebounds, two steals and two blocks and Alan Nevarez, also. a sophomore netted 12 points, along with seven rebounds, four assists and four steals.
Zayne Hall scored four points, Isaac Martinez three, Abraham Nevarez two and Chase Lutz one.
After hosting West Wendover on Thursday, Battle Mountain returns to the road on Friday for a 6 p.m. start at Silver Stage and finish the trip in Carson City on Saturday against Sierra Lutheran at 3:30 p.m.
