High school athletes, coaches and families from all over the state converged on the PCHS track last Saturday. Under sunny skies, they competed in the annual Mustang Invitational.
“It was a great meet. Our athletes were all in good spirits and ready to compete on our home field,” coach Chelsea Montes said.
The team wore “crazy socks” and competed in honor of Tyus Halverson.
Hayley Montes and Khloe Montes both placed in the 100-meter dash and Hayley placed fourth with 13.90 seconds.
Khloe placed fifth with 13.93 seconds.
In the girls 200 meters, Raegan Burrows finished second and Hayley Montes turned in a personal best of 28.55 seconds for third.
Burrows also placed first in the 400 meters and the triple jump with leaps of 34 feet, 6 inches and Annie Uhart leaped a personal best of 24-7.
Laura Gomez placed third in Pole Vault at 5-6.

Chealse Woodard earned a personal best of 29.33 seconds. Laura Gomez placed third in the 300-meter hurdles.
Pershing County took first place in the 4x200m relay with the team of Khloe Montes, Hayley Montes, Woodard, and Burrows. They finished at a personal best of 1:54.67, about 3.5 seconds ahead of the Smith Valley runner-up.
On the boys side, Josiah Hunt ran a personal best of 11.48 seconds to place second in the 100-meter dash. Ashton Jimenez placed first in the 400meters and Anthony Gibson came in third in the 300-meter hurdles.
Pershing County placed fifth in the 4x200m relay with Luis Sanchez, Anthony Gibson, Izayuh McGlothin, and Josiah Hunt running.
Ashton Jimenez and Howard Mitchell each cleared seven and a half feet pole vaulting for Lovelock.
The team travels to Carson City on Saturday, for the Carson Senator Invitational. The postseason is just around the corner.
