As it has been all year, the final week of the regular season in the Northern 3A East is going to be crazy — all except for one team.

Churchill County has secured the No. 1 seed from the East for the regional tournament but the final three seeds are anybody’s to secure.

Elko is currently second at 7-5, with Lowry, Spring Creek and Fernley tied at 5-7.

Only the top four advance to the postseason. Lowry travels to Dayton, Spring Creek visits Churchill County and Elko travels to Fernley.

In the end, you may need an abacus to figure out tiebreakers.

Lowry put itself in that three-way tie by losing three games to Churchill County this past weekend at home.

The Greenwave won 15-5 on Friday and 19-14 and 14-3 on Saturday. The Buckaroos also fell under .500 overall at 10-12.

Trailing 2-0 after the top of the first inning, Lowry bounced back with three runs in the bottom of the opening frame, off an error by the Greenwave after a ground out by Michael Heikkila.

Churchill County regained the advantage in the second inning and did not trail again. The Buckaroos cut the deficit to 7-5 in the third inning but the Greenwave scored seven times in the sixth to put the contest out of reach.

Lowry was held to just two hits, as the teams combined for 12 errors.

Churchill County 19, Lowry 14 (9 Innings)

If you’re a fan of both teams and had plans for later on Saturday, those were scrapped after a four-hour opening game that went into nine innings and saw Churchill County score sevens runs in the ninth inning, in a contest that resembled a football score.

The Greenwave jumped out to a 6-1 advantage after the top of the fourth inning, when the two teams combined for 17 runs to the end of the sixth inning.

Eleven of those runs came from the Buckaroos, who erased the Churchill County lead to 12-11.

Erick Valencia led off the bottom of the seventh inning with a single and advance to second on a wild pitch. With one out, Matthew Casalez singled to score Valencia and ReiCyan Grau followed with a single.

Heikkila then was intentionally walked to load the bases with the winning run at third base.

The next batter, Eli Lange hit a flyball beyond second base that was caught but it was too short to send Casalez from third base to win the game. The inning ended one batter later with a ground out.

Lowry went down I order in the bottom of the eight and Churchill County plated the seven runs in the ninth for the win.

The two clubs combined for 38 hits and seven errors. Lowry had 21 hits, with Kayd Garner, Grau and Valencia collecting three each.

Garner added two RBI and two runs scored. Aidan Tregellas, Connor Peterson, Heikkila and Casalez each had two hits. Bryce Niblack and Lange had one hit apiece.

Churchill County 14, Lowry 3

Churchill County scored 10 runs in the third inning to build a 14-1 lead and closed out the series sweep. Lowry had six hits, with Valencia collecting two. Zak Growcock, Peterson, Heikkila and Garner each had one hit.

Lowry travels to Dayton for a single game on Thursday at 3 p.m. and a doubleheader on Friday at 11 a.m.
