What was to be a long Saturday trip to Tahoe City Calif., turned into an extra day off before Battle Mountain hosts Incline for homecoming on Friday night.

North Tahoe’s football field and stadium was not ready for play this week and the Lakers traveled to Battle Mountain on Thursday night.

It was all Longhorns in the 36-7 victory, as they improved to 3-2 overall and 2-0 in the Northern 2A.

The night belonged to Jake Perrone, as the Battle Mountain quarterback ran for four touchdowns on the night.

After North Tahoe went three-and-out on its opening drive, Battle Mountain eventually scored on a penalty riddled drive. It appeared Perrone put the Longhorns in the drivers seat with a 29-yard run to the 1-yard line.

However, that play was called back on a holding penalty. Battle Mountain fumbled on the next play to move the drive back further.

But the Longhorns took advantage of two personal fouls by the Laker defense and Perrone scored on a 1-yard run for the first points of the night.

Battle Mountain added to its lead with 52 seconds left in the opening    quarter after a 6-yard run. An interception by Liam Bundrock set the drive up at the North Tahoe 30-yard line and Spealman scored two plays later.

The Longhorns added four scores in the second quarter, including a 14-yard run by Perrone to make the score 20-0, 44 seconds into the second quarter.

North Tahoe fumbled deep in its own territory on the next drive and two plays later, Perrone ran for 11 yards and a touchdown for a 26-0 lead.

Battle Mountain scored its third touchdown in six minutes late in the first half on a 43-yard run by Perrone, as he maneuvered and weaved through tackles and the North Tahoe defense.

A 27-yard field goal by Ari Kyllonen with 12 seconds left in the first gave the Longhorns a 36-0 advantage and running clock at halftime.

The second half went quick, as Battle Mountain had just three short possessions. With nine minutes left to play, North Tahoe scored its first points of the season in four games, as Jojo Martinez scored on a 4-yard run.

Battle Mountain continues its four-game homestand on Friday against Incline at 7 p.m. as part of homecoming.
