Sophomore Alyla Thomas led the way for the Lowry High School cross country team, as the young sophomore runner placed sixth in the girls race at the Lazy 5 Invitational in Sparks on Friday afternoon.
The 3.1-mile race was held at Lazy 5 Regional Park near Spanish Springs High School. Thomas finished the race in a time of 21:12.
Spanish Springs’ Kambri Felsted won the race with a time of 19:45 and teammate Taizley Felsted was third at 20:35. Douglas’ Lucy Nord split up the sister duo, as the runner-up at 20:23.
Reno’s McKenna Palmer (20:55) and Sophie Cliffe ((21:10) were fourth and fifth, respectively.
Natalia Cassinelli (25:13) and teammate Mia Preciado (25:14) finished together for 34th and 35th, respectively. Freshman Azure Sagers placed 40th in a time of 25:37 and Brooklyn Swensen was 41st at 26:00.
Mariah Ramos (27:08) and Adel Hall (30:59) rounded out the finishers for Lowry.
Douglas claimed the team championship with 40 points, followed closely by Reno at 42. Spanish Springs placed third with 67 points, followed by Galena (98), Lowry (122) and McQueen (164).
In the boys 3.1-mile race sophomore Cooper Hoagland led the way for the Buckaroos, finishing 19th in a time of 18:58.
Douglas’ Luje Davis won the race with a time of 16:46 and South Tahoe’s Jacob Manning (16:52) placed second. They were the only two runners under 17 minutes.
Freshman Aden Thomas finished 59th for the Buckaroos in a time of 20:40 and Kolby Hoagland was 63rd at 21:11.
Finn Baldwin (22:12), Jace Frydendall (22:52) and Lennox Zebroski (24:13) completed the finishers for Lowry.
Spanish Springs won the team title, followed by Reno at 65 points and McQueen (75) third. Lowry was ninth in the team standings.
Lowry will be busy in the next week, traveling to Truckee on Saturday.
The Buckaroos travel back to Reno on Tuesday, Oct. 1, for the Ranch Invitational at Damonte Ranch High School.
The meet was postponed a couple weeks ago due to the Davis Fire.
Lowry travels to Sparks on Friday, Oct. 4, for the Reed Invitational.
