Lady Longhorns drop two road matches


It was a tough weekend for the Battle Mountain High School volleyball team, as they hit the road for the first time in September after hosting four straight Northern 2A matches.

Battle Mountain was in Lovelock on Friday night to take on league-leading Pershing County. Even though each of the three sets were close, the Mustangs won 25-18, 25-19, 25-22.

Addison Matheus provided three blocks and two kills on the night for the Lady Longhorns and Stevlana Martinez added a team-high three kills to go with two blocks. 

Noel Hill contributed two kills and one ace and Alexis Rangel and Eimilie Johnson each had one kill. Rangel also had five digs.

Jazmin Johnson and Alissa Heinz had four assists apiece and Lindsey Bleak finished with a team-high 11 digs.


BMHS falls in four sets to Coral

Battle Mountain concluded the road trip on Saturday at Coral Academy, with the Falcons winning 25-20, 19-25, 25-21, 26-24, dropping the Lady Longhorns to 4-5 in league play.

Battle Mountain had 25 kills on the day, including six each from Hill and Eimilie Johnson. 

Halle Edgar and Martinez had four kills apiece and Eimilie Johnson and Thalia Gonzalez added five and four aces, respectively.

Bleak finished with nine digs, Asier Iturriaga had three digs and Heinz and Jazmin Johnson had seven and five assists, respectfully.

Battle Mountain hosts Incline on Friday at 5 p.m. and North Tahoe on Saturday at noon.
