Seven swimmers from the Battle Mountain NNA swim team were in Truckee on Saturday, Sept. 14, for the Donner Dip.

Five-year-old Ryker Serna Torrence made his swimming debut, after starting in June. Zayne Hall is in his senior year and has not completed in over a year but did great. 

It was Nevaeh Serna’s first meet in the 13–14-year-old age group and she held her own winning the 200 backstroke by four seconds.

Saige Bakker and Beckett Buffington were looking to get state qualification times for later in November.

Weston Reiva and Berrett Buffington improved their times for a better seeding at the state championships in Carson City.

Reiva and Serna will compete in Roseville, Calif. from October 4-6t the Spooktacular. The state championship will be held in Carson City Nov. 8-11.

Serna Torrence turned in a pair of runner up finishes in the 25-yard backstroke at 52.18 seconds and the 25-yard freestyle (43.35). 

The young swimmer placed 11th in the 100-yard backstroke (1:27.76), 50-yard freestyle (39.54) and 100-yard individual medley (1:30.39).

In her first races in an older age group, Serna stopped the clock at 2:19.62 to win the 200-yard backstroke and she was the runner-up in the 100-yard backstroke at 1:06.07.

Serna placed third in both the 100-yard freestyle (1:01.15) and the 50-yard freestyler (27.62) and fifth in the 200-yard individual medley (2:31.89) and seventh in the 200-yard freestyle (2:16.46).

Saige Bakker chopped off nearly 11 seconds to finish eighth in the 100-yard backstroke at 1:57.96 and she was eighth in the 100-yard freestyle (1:27.71). 

Bakker finished ninth in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:43, 10th in the 50-yard breaststroke (51.82), a six-second improvement, 11th in the 50-yard backstroke (45.79), 13th in the 100-yard individual medley (1:44.77) and 15th in the 50-yard freestyle (38.92).

Beckett Buffington finished 29th in the 50-yard freestyle in a time of 53.49 and Hall finished ninth in the 100-yard backstroke (1:07.03), 13th in the 100-yard freestyle (55.96) and 14th in the 50-yard freestyle (25.15).

Barrett Buffington had a best finish of fourth in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:57.41 and was fifth in the 100-yard backstroke at 1:35.27, a 6.46-second improvement.

He placed seventh in the 50-yard freestyle (1:27.57) and the 50-yard butterfly (47.74). 

He took over seven seconds off in the 50-yard breaststroke to place eight at 52.44 and was ninth in the 50-yard freestyle (37.16.)

Reiva’s best finish was fourth in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 1:09.19 and he placed fifth in the 50-yard freestyle (31.34).

Reiva chopped off over five seconds in the 100-yard breaststroke to place seventh at 1:45.35 and he was also seventh in the 100-yard butterfly (1:38.66).

Reiva finished 10th in the 200-yard freestyle (2:36.10) and was 11th in the 200-yard individual medley (3:06.28) and 16th in the 50-yard breaststroke (43.82).
