Lowry rolls past Sparks for first win of the season
Buckaroos end three-game road trip at Spring Creek
For a moment, it appeared the Lowry High School Northern 3A opener against Sparks was going to be postponed or canceled due to the Davis Fire near the Damonte Ranch and Mt. Rose area.
However, conditions improved and smoke cleared allowing the game to be played Friday. The Buckaroos were happy the game occurred, beating the Railroaders 55-7 to improve to 1-2 on the season.
Lowry struck early and often, grabbing a 6-0 advantage after a missed 2-point conversion off a short pass from Erick Valencia to Anthony Monroy.
With 2:25 left in the first quarter, Valencia connected with Jaden Jimenez on a touchdown pass to make the score 13-0.

The Railroaders prevented the shutout and a potential running clock with a touchdown of their own with 29 seconds left in the half. Those were the only points for Sparks in the game.
Crutcher added two touchdown runs in the third quarter, including on the opening drive and following an interception from the Buckaroo defense to make the score 48-7 and a running clock with less than a minute to go in the third quarter.
A touchdown reception by Matthew Casalez in the fourth quarter closed out the scoring for Lowry.
