Barto wins barrel racing average at White Pine rodeo


The Nevada High School Rodeo Association made its second stop of the fall season in Ely on Sept. 7-8 for the White Pine rodeo.

Humboldt County’s Brynn Barto led the way in the barrel racing average with a time of 34.933 seconds. She won the first performance at 17.339 and was the runner-up in the second performance.

Barto placed fifth in the breakaway roping at 15.220, including a third-place finish in the second performance with a time of 2.67. Barto added a fourth-place finish in goat tying with two strong runs of 9.49 and 9.79.

Humboldt County’s Matti DeLong and partner Jojo Webber of Alamo were second in the team roping average with a time of 23.760, including a second-place outing in the second performance at 8.33.

DeLong posted an eighth-place finish in barrel racing with a two-day time of 36.704 and was ninth in breakaway roping. She was fourth after the first performance at 3.16 but missed her calf in the second performance.

She finished third in goat tying and was sixth in girls cutting with 138 points.

Humboldt County’s Kayleigh Marshall won the first performance of breakaway roping in a time of 2.66 but missed on her calf on day two and was sixth in the average.

Humboldt County’s Natalie Mori finished third in girls cutting with 141 points and Taylor Hill was 10th in the standings and 12th in pole bending. Leigh Johnson finished fifth in pole bending with a time of 46.786.

Humboldt County’s Lane Byrd won the second performance of boys cutting and was third in the average with 138 points. He placed 10th in the tie-down roping standings. Bryce Fears and partner Raelee Christian of Alamo were sixth in the team roping average.

Battle Mountain’s Eli Lancaster won the second performance of steer wrestling in a time of 11.390 and was second in the average. He posted a sixth-place finish tie-down roping with a two-day time of 42.780 and placed fourth in team roping with Andrew Morian of the Douglas/Carson team.

Lovelock’s Jacob Burke posted a runner-up finish in boys cutting with 138.5 points.

Battle Mountain’s Jorja Mashburn and Landry Meiman were 11th and 12th in goat tying, with Meiman 12th in barrel racing. Mashburn and Fallon’s Lauren Goings placed fifth in team roping.


Junior High Results

The Humboldt County duo of Louise DeLong and Huntley Byrd were atop the standings once again. DeLong came away with the barrel average title, while Byrd was seventh.

Byrd and DeLong placed ninth and 10th in breakaway roping and DeLong and Burd finished eighth and ninth in goat tying. Byrd swept both performances of pole bending to win the average by nearly three seconds and DeLong was fifth in the average despite knocking down a pole in her second run.

DeLong and Elko’s Pete Mori were third in ribbon roping and Byrd and Eureka’s Henry Buchanan were sixth.  Byrd and Elko’s Luke Matson were third in team roping.

On the boys side, Jace Barto won the second performance of breakaway roping and placed third in the average and was 12th in goat tying. Teammate Chance Thomas was sixth in goat tying, with Barto placing seventh in chute dogging.

Battle Mountain’s Logan Lancaster and Mori won the team roping average, while Battle Mountain’s Cray Trevort and Fallon’s Stella Lee were seventh. Trevort placed fifth in chute dogging. Lancaster and Eureka’s Kaycee Osterhoudt were fourth in ribbon roping.

Lovelock’s Tripp Arndt and Las Vegas’ Hazel Griffith were ninth in team roping. Arndt placed sixth in goat tying.

Humboldt County’s Tucker Root won the rifle shoot with 259 points and Chance Thomas was fourth. 

The circuit stops in Battle Mountain this weekend.
