The Lowry High School girls soccer team remained in the hunt for the top spot in the Northern 3A East with three wins in four matches.

Lowry scored a combined 20 goals in a 13-0 win over West Wendover on Aug. 30 and a 7-0 victory over White the following day.

In the win over the Wolverines, the Lady Bucks (5-5 overall, 5-1 Northern 3A East) scored six times in the first half, as the match ended after 60 minutes, as part of the NIAA mercy rule.

Junior Natalya Guizar netted a hat trick with three goals and sophomore Yareli Garcia added a pair of goals. 

Katlin Messmer, Ava Swensen, Maite Avalos, Britain Backus, Kepa Hilbish, Maura Braatz and Ayde Gonzalez each had one goal.

Avalos contributed three assists and Adalyn Entwistle, Swensen, Hilbish, Braatz and Damiena Mentaberry had one assist apiece.

Riley Ball, a sophomore, was in goal for the Lady Bucks and saw no shots on goal.

Lowry had to play the full 80 minutes in a league game this year, but still came away with an 7-0 win over White Pine, on Aug. 31, on the strength of five goals in the first 40 minutes of play.

Guizar could not be stopped by the Bobcat defense, as she scored four goals. Hilbish added two and Avalos finished with a goal and an assist. 

Backus had two assists and Callie Paulsen and Nevaeh Gerhard contributed one assist each.

Once again Ball did not have a shot on goal.

Lowry began a six-match road trip in Elko on Wednesday, Sept. 4, and lost 3-1, as the Indians scored a pair of goals in the first half.

Guizar found the net for the Lady Bucks off an assist by Entwistle to tie mtach at 1-1, just two minutes into the second half.

Elko came back to net the final two goals.

Senior Cleo Fowler returned as the Lowry goalkeeper and had nine saves on 12 shots.

Lowry was back in Elko County this past Saturday and came away with a  3-2 win over Spring Creek.

The Lady Bucks led 1-0 after 40 minutes of action but needed a pair of goals in the second half to leave with the victory.

Guizar netted a pair of goals, while Avalos added a goal and an assist.

Garcia and Mentaberry each had an assist.

The road trip for Lowry continues Friday in Dayton at 5 p.m. and Saturday in Fernley at noon. 

The Lady Bucks travel to Fallon on Sept. 20, and Lovelock on Sept. 24.
