Little by little, the Lowry High School cross country team is coming back and are looking to be a threat in the team standings.
The Buckaroos have had some strong individual runner in the last few years, but the number of runners has climbed in the program and look to be a problem in the team standings.
Lowry traveled to Tahoe City, Calif., on Saturday for the North Tahoe Madman Mills Invitational.
The Buckaroo girls finished second as a team and the boys were third in the 3.3-mile race in the Sierra Nevada Mountains.
Cooper Hoagland paced Lowry with a ninth-place finish in a time of 23 minutes, 49 seconds. Kolby Hoagland stopped the clock at 25.00 to place 22nd and Anden Thomas (25:47) and Jace Frydendall (26:17) were 29th and 33rd, respectively.
Finn Baldwin finished 45th in the race at 28:18 and Lennox Zebroski was 46th in a time of 28:32.
Whittell’s Logan Robertson won the race in a time of 21:30 and Fernley’s Kael Perez was second at 21:35. South Tahoe’s Jacob Manning (21:36) and Shamus Nealis (21:38) finished third and fourth, respectively.
South Tahoe won the team title with 47 points and Douglas (70) and Lowry (78) were second and third, respectively. North Valleys (100), Churchill County (110), Coral Academy of Reno (133), Whittell (160) and West Wendover (173) completed the team scores.
Alyla Thomas was the top finisher for the Lowry girls, placing ninth with a time of 27:17.
South Tahoe’s Lyla Landy won the race with a time of 24:52 and Dougals’ Lucy Nord (25:16) and Bishop Manogue’s Samantha Tolotti (25:36) were second and third, respectfully.
The Lady Bucks featured five runners together at the finish line, as Natalia Cassinelli (32:13) was 29th, Brooklyn Swensen (32:20) 31st, Azure Sagers (32:29) 32nd, Mia Preciado (32:53) 33rd and Mariah Ramos placed 35th with a time of 33:36. Adel Hall finished 45th for the Lady Bucks at 37:15.
Douglas led the way in the team race with 24 points and Lowry (63), Mammoth (69) and North Valleys (70) rounded out the top five.
Lowry competes at Oakmont Invitational
Lowry traveled to the Oakmont Invitational, one of the best meets in northern California on Saturday, Aug. 31.
Alyla Thomas finished 41st in the 4,000-meter varsity girls race in a time of 15:36. There were 195 runners in the race.
The varsity boys race featured 263 runners and Cooper Hoagland finished 131st in a time of 13:57.30.
Lowry had five runners in the girls JV race, as Swensen was 20th in a time of 18:48.50 and Sagers 27th at 19:26.40. Cassinelli placed 42nd with a time of 20:37.50 and Mariah Ramos *20:59.20) and Hall (21:23.40) were 46th and 51st, respectfully.
The boys featured five runners in the JV race as well, with Kolby Hoagland placing 21st in a time of 14:40.20. Frydendall (15:42), Baldwin (16:06.40), Thomas (16:08.20) and Zebroski (17:10.70) rounded out the finishers for the Buckaroos.
Lowry is scheduled to travel to Reno on Saturday for the Ranch Invitational at Damonte Ranch High School.
