Pershing County soccer team loses to Dayton

The Pershing County High School girls soccer team lost a Northern 3A match to the Dayton Dust Devils on Tuesday, Aug. 27, at PCHS with a final score of 3-1. However, the Mustangs showed improvement, especially on possessing the ball and connecting passes.

Junior midfielder Lexie Portillo got the ball away from Dayton and scored an unassisted goal in the first half. However, Dayton soon tied up the score at one. It remained tied until about 20 minutes into the second half.

Dayton scored their third goal in the final minutes of the game. Both teams played hard on a hot, sunny day.

"The girls played great. We just couldn't get the ball in the net," said coach Kelly Brooks.

On Thursday, Aug. 29, Lovelock hosted Spring Creek for another league matchup. 

Results were not available at press time. On Saturday, Aug. 31, the girls host Elko at 10 a.m.
