The Pershing County High School girls soccer week started with a 4-0 loss to Fernley on the road.
The Mustangs had better luck on senior night when they beat Battle Mountain 6-0 in Lovelock.
They now stand at 7-9-2 overall and 5-9-2 in the league.
"We had a strong showing against Fernley, but we could not get the ball on their half of the field. The few times we did get it on their half we couldn’t capitalize on our opportunities," coach Kelly Brooks said.
The Mustangs and Vaqueros tied earlier in the season in the first match-up in Lovelock.
It was a different story on senior night. Pershing seniors Grace Kalsem, Lily Anderson-Burt, Kim Hinds and Kimi Trowbridge and Yasmin Acosta got plenty of playing time and capitalized on every opportunity.
Sophomore Megan DeLaVega covered the goalie position for the first time in her high school career.
That gave Anderson-Burt free rein in the forward position.
DeLaVega stopped a penalty kick and Anderson-Burt scored a goal in the second half. Nayeli Acosta and Riley Harvey each had two goals. Yasmin Acosta had one.
Pershing County beat Battle Mountain 12-0 in Longhorn country last month.
Yasmin Acosta, Anderson-Burt and Trowbridge each played four years of soccer for the Mustangs. Hinds played during her freshman year and came back as a senior.
"These girls have shown unwavering dedication to their team and this sport. They have let nothing stop them- wins, losses, injuries, triumphs," Brooks said.
"Coaching them has been fun and rewarding, I just wish I could have had them a little longer. We will miss them in the future, but we will always love them. I am truly grateful and appreciative for all they have done and given to us."
Pershing County traveled to Dayton on Tuesday and hosted Elko on Wednesday. Results were not available at press time.
