Last Friday, on a cold October night in Lovelock, the Pershing County High School football team beat visiting West Wendover 52-6.
The future Mustangs added to the festive mood, as youth players and fans met at the south end zone for the Mustang spell out.
The first quarter ended at 34-0 and by the half it stood at 46-0.
The Mustangs held the Wolverines at bay until the fourth quarter when they scored a touchdown from a completed pass.
"The game went well for us. We were able to slow down West Wendover's high paced offense and get possession of the ball to drive for touchdowns," coach Mike Brooks said.
Pershing County's highlights included interceptions by Michael Reitz and Denzel Zaldivar. Zaldivar also returned a punt for a touchdown.
Offensively, Tyrn Sam led the way with three touchdowns. Travis Donaldson threw a touchdown pass to Taylor Montes.
"Trenton Rhodes got his first start of the season at RB, did an excellent job blocking for us and had some nice carries," Brooks said.
With the win, Pershing County stands at 7-0 overall and 4-0 in the Northern 2A.
On Thursday, Pershing County travels to Battle Mountain (3-2) for a 7 p.m. kickoff.
On Friday, Nov. 1, the Mustangs host Coral Academy for the last game of the regular season.
