Cassinelli ties for third place at NIAA 3A State Golf Championships

It was smooth sailing weather wise for about 90% of the high school girls golf season.

However, Mother Nature had other ideas on the second day of the NIAA 3A State Girls Golf Championships at Dayton Valley Country Club in Dayton.

The first 18 holes on Tuesday, Oct. 15, where played in good conditions, while wind and rain greeted players on Oct. 16, and scores jumped much higher.

Lowry High School’s Katie Cassinelli tied for third place with a two-day total of 163. 

She carded rounds of 79 and 84. She tied with Truckee’s Allison Mortimeyer. Mortimeyer and Cassinelli battled for the top spot in the Northern 3A all season. 

The Lowry High School girls golf team of Lainey Novacek, Katie Cassinelli, Kailani Rodriguez, Jordyn Medicine Cloud, Presley Hayes and Bailey Miller finished fifth at the NIAA 3A State Girls Golf Championships in Dayton on Oct. 15-16.

Cassinelli was a first-team selection and Mortimeyer was the Player of the Year. Truckee’s Alina Gillespie placed   fifth with a score of 170.

Boulder City’s Emmerson Hinds was the individual state champion, with impressive rounds of 71 and 72 for a 143. Virgin Valley’s Abi Llewlyn was second at 148 after shooting 70 on day one.

Boulder City won the team title with a score of 713 and Truckee was the runner-up at 752. Virgin Valley (764), Coral Las Vegas (804) and Lowry (826) rounded out the top five. 

Lowry was playing in the state tournament as a team for the first time since 2021.

Presly Hayes finished 23rd for the Buckaroos with a two-day total of 211. She had rounds of 101 and 110, while Lainey Novacek was 25th at 218.

Novacek shot 101 on day one and 117 for her final 18 holes.

Kailani Rodriguez finished 33rd with a score of 234 and Jordyn Medicine Cloud (246) and Baliey Miller (261) were 37th and 38th, respectively.
