Thomas posts second-place finish at Wells Invitational

As the postseason quickly approaches, the Lowry High School cross country team headed back out on the road last Friday to Wells for the Wells Invitational at Chimney Rock Golf Course.

The Buckaroo featured seven runners in the girls 3.1-mile race, with sophomore Alyla Thomas earning a runner-up finish with a time of 20 minutes, 9 seconds.

Teammates Mia Preciado (22:57) and Natalia Cassinelli (23:21) placed 18th and 20th, respectively.

Senior Brooklyn Swensen crossed the finish line in 22nd in a time of 23:22 and freshman Azure Sagers was 28th at 24:02.

Mariah Ramos (24:08) and Adel Hall (27:07) completed the finishers for Lowry.

Elko freshman Avery Shotly crossed the line first at 19:51.

Jerome, Idaho, claimed the team title with 38 points and Spring Creek (50), Elko (57), Lowry (84) and Wells (148) rounded out the top five.

Sophomore Cooper Hoagland paced the Lowry boys with a fifth-place finish in a time of 18:10.

Freshman teammate Anden Thomas was 23rd at 19:44. Finn Baldwin was 38th at 21:14 and Lennox Zebroski was 47th at 22:00.

Spring Creek had five of the top seven finishers, including the first three across the line. 

Scottie Adams won the race in a time of 17:12 and Rhett White was second at 18:05.

Spring Creek won the team title with 17 points, followed by Jerome, Idaho (61), Wells (92), Elko (100), Jackpot (138) and West Wendover (147).

Winnemucca hosts its invitational on Saturday at Winnemucca Municipal Golf Course. 

The Northern 3A Regional Championships is set for Friday, Oct. 25, at Rancho San Rafael Park in Reno.
