Anika Happy and Kimi Trowbridge celebrate a goal against the Quincy Trojans last Friday at PCHS.

The week for the Pershing County girls soccer week tested its stamina.

Mid-week, the Mustangs traveled to Spring Creek and lost 8-0 to the Spartans.

Next, Pershing County  hosted the Quincy Trojans, beating the visitors 8-0.

The Spartans and Mustangs are ranked fifth and sixth in the league, but Spring Creek dominated the game, especially in the first half.

"It was one of the worst halves we have played so far this season. After halftime, the girls went back out there and played much better, so I was proud of them for that," said coach Kelly Brooks.

Pershing County also lost to Spring Creek 8-0 earlier in the year.

Lily Anderson-Burt and Megan DeLaVega defend Pershing County's goal from the Trojans.

On Friday, Quincy came to Pershing County for the first time since they started their soccer program this fall.

In August, Pershing County beat them 5-0 on the road, so it's 2-0 for the Mustangs.

"We were excited to bring the Trojans out to Pershing County. Our girls made it Crazy Hair Day to add more fun to the game," Brooks said.

Pershing County had four goals in each half and stifled the Trojans on defense. Yasmin Acosta, Lexie Portillo, Riley Harvey and Nayeli Acosta each scored for the Mustangs.

After the half, Portillo scored two more times, a hat trick. Yasmin Acosta and Riley Harvey each added a goal.

Harvey's goal came from a direct hit by Yasmin Acosta after a Quincy player got red-carded. The coach says Harvey headed the ball into the goal "with the help of her crazy hair bun."

"The game was unnecessarily rough with three cards being given out (one to Pershing County and two to Quincy)," Brooks said. One Trojan got two yellow cards, resulting in a red card.

Pershing County traveled to Fernley on Tuesday. Results were not available at press time. This Thursday, the Mustangs host their rival school, Battle Mountain.

Pershing County beat the Longhorns 12-0 earlier in the year.

On Saturday, Pershing County hosts Yerington at 2:30 p.m.

Battle Mountain's visit coincides with Pershing County's senior night. The Mustangs will honor their grads-to-be. They include Yasmin Acosta, Kim Hinds, Kimi Trowbridge, Lily Anderson-Burt and Grace Kalsem. The game starts at 6:30 p.m.
