The longest road trip of the season greeted the Lowry High School girls soccer team as it attempts to remain in the hunt for a home playoff match in the Northern 3A Regional Championships at the end of October.

In 2023, the Buckaroos got rid of the West Wendover and White Pine trip in the opening weekend of the season.

Lowry had to wait almost to the end of the regular season this fall.

It didn’t matter in the long run, as the Buckaroos posted a pair of shutouts, beating West Wendover 8-0 on Friday and White Pine 3-0 on Saturday.

Lowry improved to 11-6-1 overall and 11-2-1 in the Northern 3A East. The Buckaroos are neck-and-neck with Elko for the No. 2 spot in the league.

The Indians hold the tiebreaker over the Buckaroos.

In the win over West Wendover, Lowry scored four goals in each half, as the match ended in the 70th minute due to the NIAA mercy rule.

Five different players scored for Lowry, including a hat trick from junior Natalya Guizar. Guizar has a team-high 23 goals this season.

Fellow junior Maite Avalos added a pair of goals to go with two assists. She has nine on the season.

Senior Kepa Hilbish added a goal and contributed to two more and Elyza Sirotek and Maura Braatz each had a goal.

Lowry had 30 shots on goal on the day.

Meanwhile, West Wendover did not have a shot on goal, as Cleo Fowler was perfect in the goal.

Saturday in Ely, Guizar scored two more goals, as Lowry pulled away with two goals in the second half. Braatz added a goal and an assists and Avalos had two assists.

Lowry hosts Dayton on Thursday at 5 p.m. on the football field for senior night. Lowry is back home on Saturday to play Fernley at 11:45 a.m.

The regular season concludes on Tuesday, Oct. 22, as Lowry hosts league-leading Churchill County at 3:45 p.m.
