PCHS knocks off SLHS in annual Dig Pink game

Dig Pink is one of Lovelock's most festive volleyball games of the year and it's for a good cause, cancer awareness.

The team decorated the gym with balloons and streamers and wore pink jerseys, bows, and socks. SLHS lived up to its reputation as an energetic team, adding to the fun.

The money raised from the Dig Pink silent auction and bake sale will go to a Pershing County resident with cancer-related stresses.

"Our gameplay was upbeat in the first set with all the excitement in the gym," coach Monica Halverson said.

However, in the second set, the Falcons pushed the Mustangs into some forced errors.

Pershing County  bounced back in the third set and won the game 3-0.

Emma Blondheim had four digs. Raegan Burrows had two aces, 19 kills and 20 digs.

Khloe Montes added three aces, five kills and 22 digs.

Arya Garland had two aces, two kills from a back-row attack and 28 digs. Laura Gomez added a kill and a dig, playing a tough defense in the utility position while protecting the right side of the court.

The Incline Highlanders’ senior night game ended in a loss to the Mustangs.

The top two teams in the league both showed determination.

Pershing County lost the first set by six points and the second by two. For a moment, it looked like Lovelock was about to lose its undefeated status.

However, the Mustangs rallied in the third, fourth and fifth sets to win the game.

"I cannot express how proud I am of these girls. They played like a team and it showed," Halverson said.
